Speech, language and Communication Needs
"My Child has difficulties with Communication and Interaction."
This can include:
- Understanding language.
- Using language.
- Understanding how to communicate socially with other people.
- Conditions include: Specific Language Disorder, ASD/ASC (Autism), Asperger Syndrome, speech sound disorders/delay.
- Stammering – advice given to families about how to access support from outside agencies.
- English as an Additional Language (EAL)
What support can we offer?
All students at Wellacre can access:
- Quality First teaching with appropriate differentiation.
- Use of technology and additional resources to support learning.
- Access to homework support clubs.
- Literacy sessions during tutor time; three times a fortnight.
- Access to assessment for identification of significant needs.
- Dedicated and caring staff who value all students regardless of ability.
- Visual/Personalised timetables
Targeted students can access:
- Breakfast club.
- Year 6 into 7 Vulnerable Transition programme
- Referrals for assessment and identification of language need and feedback to parents and staff.
- Individual Education Plan (IEP/Passport) with allocated key worker
- Access to an additional adult's shared support in some lessons .
- Support through the Inclusion Centre as required.
*Please note: These options need to be agreed upon for each student in conjunction with parents/carers and then regularly reviewed/modified.
Targeted Individual support can access:
- Advice from a Speech and Language Therapist or 1:1 sessions .
- 1:1 sessions with other specialist staff in the school, linked to other needs on EHCP and Individual Teaching Assistant support in some mainstream lessons.
- On-going monitoring and regular feedback to parents and students (at least termly and including the Annual Review)
- Exam access arrangements.
- Post 16 transition support.
- The Hub provides support at break and lunchtime for vulnerable students.
- Termly review of progress to inform intervention.
