Learning Support and Inclusion (SEND)
Our Learning Support Department is overseen by our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENDCo) Mrs O'Neill (moneill(at)wellacre.org).
We have a team of 5 Teaching Assistants, who support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in lessons and also in our before and after school provisions. We run a variety of clubs and intervention programmes including Catchup Literacy, designed for rapid reading and literacy improvement, breakfast club to provide nurture before school and homework club after school to give students support with study skills.
In 2022, Wellacre was re-awarded the Trafford Dyslexia Aware Quality Mark in recognition of the lengths Wellacre goes to in order to support students with dyslexia across the school. This provision has been national and internationally recognised with visitors from as far as Australia coming to view Wellacre's dyslexia provision.
Wellacre is a fully inclusive school and we are proud of the provision and outstanding progress our SEND students make. All SEND students over the past 7 years have gone on from Wellacre to study in colleges or begin apprenticeships across a wide range of fields.
If you are a parent of a student with SEND and are thinking of applying to Wellacre and would like to discuss possible provision for your son, please contact the SENDCo, Mrs O'Neill at moneill(at)wellacre.org.
"Pupils who have Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities make rapid progress. They are supported effectively in class by teachers and teaching assistants and benefit from expert teaching in smaller groups." (Ofsted 2017)
