Medal Winners, Oliver and Toby

We would like to take the opportunity to share the outstanding sporting achievements of Year 8 students Oliver and Toby.  Both students have taken up their sport at a young age and continuously showcase their talent and love of their sport, Oliver in swimming and Toby in karate.

Wellacre is hugely supportive of students pursuing their sporting dreams and success in disciplines outside of school and we are proud to report that Oliver and Toby have both recently competed in their fields to become medal winners:

Oliver

At the recent Trafford Metro Swim Meet, Oliver joined his swim club Flixton Swim Team to complete. He enjoyed a great day of swimming and achieved a SIlver medal in the 100m backstroke (out of 15 competitors) and a Bronze medal in the 50m backstroke (out of 12 competitors.)

At 13 years old, Oliver has been swimming ‘forever’ with around 9 years of swim experience!

He said:

“The next event is our club competition - they’re really fun and we get pretty competitive!”

Toby

It was the Yanagi Kai Karate Competition on 15th May and Toby emerged victorious in the team Kata event with a Gold medal!

His latest medal joins his impressive haul including a Gold in the 2019 Hamburg Open in team Kata, a Bronze in the 2019 British Championships, a Silver in the 2020 English Championships and a Silver at the 2021 Chojinkai Karate/Cumbrian Open.

As a member of the Sale Dojo and Yanagi Kai Association, Toby is a committed member of the karate world!  He has recently completed his black belt assessment, which means a lot to 13 year old Toby who has been involved in the sport for about 8 years and is currently a brown belt.

He said:

“By completing the black belt assessment, it means I’ll be working hard and training a lot, about 2 to 3 times a week, for the next 6 months before the grading.”
