The Wellacre English department organised the special workshop after many students became avid fans when they read Jennifer’s novel ‘Crater Lake’ as part of the Book Buzz scheme in the Autumn term.

Mrs Stirling, Teacher of English and Whole School Literacy Coordinator, said:

“It was fantastic that students had the opportunity to meet and engage with an author of a book they love and that they could explore writing as a future career option.  The session with Jennifer was really valuable; her enthusiasm for reading and writing inspired our students!”

The workshop consisted of a discussion about books and how students can generate their own creative ideas for stories. Jennifer also discussed the synopsis of her brand new book ‘Crater Lake: Evolution’ and read an excerpt.

Mrs Stirling added:

“Some students had already bought the sequel and had lots of questions to ask. One student, Cadhlar, was delighted to find out that his copy of 'Crater Lake: Evolution' was a limited edition copy!”

The session ended with an energetic game of 'Geek, Robot, Overlord,' which was inspired by Jennifer’s latest book.  Students also then took the opportunity to ask the author many questions about her books, career and love of reading and writing, including:

"What's your favourite part of writing?"

"What was your inspiration for 'Crater Lake?'"

"What's your favourite book?"

"Which is your favourite book that you've written?"

Year 7 student feedback about the workshop was positive:

Billy: “It was very fun, I'd love to do it all over again!”

Liam: “It was inspirational.”

Hugh: “The session was very entertaining, interactive and fun!”

 Jud: “It was special.”

Following the event, Jennifer Killick commented on Twitter:

“I’m so glad Wellacre enjoyed it - I loved it too!”
