Wellacre’s Carol Concert 2019

Community celebrates Christmas

St. John’s Church, Flixton, welcomed Wellacre students, staff, families and friends for the school’s annual Christmas Carol Concert. 

Organised by SENDCo and Music Teacher, Mrs Spencer, hosted by Rev. Rodney Green and supported by the 3rd Davyhulme Scout and Guides band, the festive evening included musical performances and readings by Wellacre students, as well as carols for the whole congregation to join in. 

Among the musical talent were singers Joe and Oliver, Year 11, and Jake and Thomas, Year 10, performing songs such as ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Golden Slumbers.’

There were other musical performances by Year 10 drummer, Sam, pianists Year 11 Oliver and Year 8 Nicky and guitarists Year 9 Archie, Year 10s Luca and Matthew, and Year 11s Joe and Will including ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas.’

Wellacre’s Year 7 choir sang ‘Silent Night’ followed by ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.’  When the backing track failed to play, the band and the congregation came to the rescue by cheerfully singing and clapping along, and the choir brought the house down!

Thanks to Year 10s Edward, Owen and Billy, as well as Year 11 Jack, for their festive readings. 

Former student Mr Outwaithe contacted the school to pass on his thanks.  He said:

“I would just like to congratulate all the young people who put on a Christmas Service at St John's Church. There was a lot of talent showcased. Thanks again for a wonderful evening.”

One proud parent said on twitter:

“It was brilliant to see the boys enjoying their performances and collaborating to put on such a happy event. Thanks to all involved.”

Following the concert, the Friends of Wellacre served refreshments and mince pies to raise funds for school.
