Students Support De Brook Lodge

Wellacre students supported a community project during lockdown when care provider, Ideal Carehomes, launched its annual ‘Gardens in Bloom’ competition in July.

Each year the competition invites the groups’ carehomes to revamp their outdoor spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy during the summer.

Communities are always invited to support their local carehomes, and Wellacre gladly lent their creativity once more to support De Brook Lodge and their residents!

Last year, Wellacre donated decorations and De Brook Lodge was named the North West winner of the Gardens in Bloom 2019 competition.

Students attending school during lockdown worked with Teacher of Art, Mrs Lewis, and Creative Technologies Technician, Mr Jackson, to reuse and renovate tin cans.

Each recycled can was re-shaped and decorated to create an array of colourful windmills for the De Brook Lodge garden entry.

Wellacre has worked in partnership with De Brook Lodge Care Home on several community projects including the Teen Mates programme, which saw students making social weekly social visits to residents, the Celebrating Arts in Care event alongside Mayor Rob Chilton, and donating Young Enterprise crafted pom pom animals.

Mr Pemberton, Vice Principal, Welfare and Wellbeing, said:

“We have continued to encourage students to make a real difference in the wider community throughout these challenging times, and we were all glad to take part in this creative horticultural project.  We wish De Brook Lodge carehome all the best in the competition this year!”
