Students Race Across the World in Sport Challenge

The Wellacre to Tokyo spring House challenge called on all staff and students who had ever dreamed of travelling to Japan.

The Wellacre PE department invited the whole school to join together to walk, run, cycle or swim our way to Tokyo in time for the Olympics.

Using tracking devices (Strava, Mapmyrun or Nike run club for example) via phones, ipods or watches, participants were asked to register their miles, alongside healthy selfie photos, to see which House could travel the furthest distance.

The challenge ran for the Spring 1 term, including those students in remote PE lessons, to encourage exercise and fitness for student mental health and wellbeing.

Congratulations to Lowry House who travelled the furthest, reaching 1249 miles.

The top three students who win achievement and House points were:

Lowry- Theo, Year 7 - 62miles

Pankhurst - Nourislam, Year 7 - 40 miles

Turing- Nicky, Year 9 - 20miles

Thanks also to staff who also took part.  The top staff member was Teacher of Maths, Mrs Eagling (Lowry) who travelled a staggering 571miles!   Mrs Doolan and Mr Seggie also submitted lots of entries.

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, said:

“I am so proud of the achievements of all those who took part in the challenge, particularly those students and staff who amassed staggering numbers of miles over the duration of the challenge. This is another example of the strength of the Wellacre community in working collectively. Well done everyone!”
