On 13th June, Year 8 students visited the University of Manchester for the Great Science Share event, an annual event to inspire young people to ask, investigate and share their scientific questions.

Accompanied by Mrs Siddall, Year 8 students Harry B, Joshua, Dylan, Zackary, Harry M, Nathan and Ameer attended and were tasked with interviewing exhibitors, VIPs, and university ambassadors about their work. More than 50,000 children were involved in the Great Science Share!

The 2023 theme was ‘Science Around Us’ and focused on the important role science has to play in addressing the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Students interviewed primary school children and their teachers about their Science investigation displays. They also interviewed and spoke to university students and ambassadors, including Prof Lynne Bianchi and Prof. Dame Nancy Rothwell.  The Mayor of Manchester was also in attendance.

Our group of Year 8s will now use all the information and photos they gathered to prepare a report on their Great Science Share experience, which will feature on the GSS website to inspire others in Science and Engineering.

Mrs Siddall, Assistant Leader in Science, said:

“Wellacre students were absolutely brilliant and really enjoyed the experience. They spoke confidently to the children and adults taking part, and represented the school so well.  They were excellent roving reporters and enjoyed learning about the Science that takes place in primary schools and at the university in Manchester, especially about robots and AI.”
