Year 7 Transition Event

Wellacre’s Summer School was a resounding success with a record number of new students attending to help ease the transition process ahead of the September start.

Almost 100 students joined Wellacre’s Summer School, a week-long programme full of activities and sessions enabling them to meet new classmates and staff, and familiarise themselves with the school site.

The week’s activities began with a meet and greet, a tour of the school grounds and an orienteering quiz so that students could learn their way round in teams.

We were pleased to welcome Trafford Thrive to Wellacre who delivered a September-ready wellbeing workshop.

Students enjoyed PE and team building exercises encouraging teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills such as Escape Room Challenge, a CCF taster session and several high energy team games including curling and handball.

There was a House competition every day with house points up for grabs -  students competed in their Houses in Hungry Hippos, 4-Man Skis and a highly anticipated Wellacre’s Got Talent.

Turing was named the winner at the end of the winner to thunderous applause!

Parents and carers praised the Summer School initiative as part of the transition process:

One Year 7 parent/carer said:

“Summer School was a really positive experience for my son and made me feel much more at ease with him going to a school where he didn’t know anybody.”

Another added:

“I have been really impressed with the whole transition process. I was concerned as Joel was coming from a very small, one-form entry primary school. But with the transition day and summer school he has settled in very quickly.”

A fellow Year 7 parent/carer said:

“We’ve had no concerns as my son has settled in well and transition day and Summer School were hugely enjoyable and beneficial to us all as a family.”
