Wellacre Students Enjoy Transition Event

In the week beginning 30th July, we welcomed new Year 7 students to our specially organised transition event - Wellacre’s Summer School.

The week-long Summer School is an excellent opportunity for students new to Wellacre, to familiarise themselves with Wellacre life and the site, meet teachers and support staff, and make new friends.

It is an important and invaluable part of Wellacre’s transition programme to help ease the move from primary to secondary school for these students and to help boost the new Year 7 students’ confidence ahead of the September start.

The week offered a full timetable of activities including subject taster sessions such as dodgeball, printing in Art, WW1 artifacts in History, learning the science of Music, and creating a superhero in English.

A specially devised orienteering task helped students navigate their way around the whole school building.  There were also several team-building activities including creating a time-capsule to commemorate these momentous times, building marshmallow towers and racing paper planes!

Mr Whitehead, Teacher of PE/Pankhurst Assistant Head of House, and organiser of Summer School, said:

“It was fantastic to hear all the extremely positive feedback from parents and carers following Summer School; the event really helped students familiarise themselves with Wellacre and feel more at ease about the move to Secondary.”

From the Parent Survey, 100% would recommend the event to other parents and carers of new Year 7 students joining Wellacre.  From the students’ point of view, 100% enjoyed the Summer School experience!

One parent commented:

“The week was brilliant for my son, as well as finding out more about getting to school independently and getting around the school building itself, he made some new friends ready for September.”

Another added:

“Thank you so much for giving the boys this opportunity in Summer School. I feel very reassured about my son’s transition to Wellacre Academy.  The communication throughout has been fantastic.”
