Wellacre’s Remembrance Parades 2023

Wellacre was proud to join the national Remembrance Day commemorations with a KS3 assembly, KS4 tutor group reflections and a school ceremony led by Wellacre’s CCF Cadet unit.  Once again, our Cadets proudly marched alongside other contingents in the Urmston Remembrance Parade.

On Friday 10th November, Wellacre’s CCF cadets gathered by the flagpole for a Remembrance Parade.  We were delighted to welcome residents from the De Brook Lodge care home, who made the trip across the road to join Wellacre’s commemorations.

Isaac J, Yr 9, and Jaidyn R, Year 10, accepted the invitation to wear uniform to represent the Scouts and Air Cadets respectively.

To mark the occasion of Armistice Day, the CCF unit performed a short parade at the flagpole and were brought to attention by SSI Ward.

Thanks to Jack, Year 10, and visitor, Mr Henry, who represented the Boys Brigade and played the Last Post on the bugle. The Reveille was sounded and Lt Baker laid the Wellacre wreath at the flagpole.

On Sunday 12th November, members of Wellacre’s CCF unit played a prominent role in the Urmston Remembrance Parade at Davyhulme Circle. Once again, SSI Ward was invited by Trafford Council to act as the Parade Marshall to lead the community ceremony and featured on Granada reports alongside Will W, Year 10, who had the honour of laying the wreath on behalf of the Army Cadet Force, Flixton.

SSI Ward said:

“It was an honour to be asked once again to lead the parade on this special day.  Everyone marching in the whole parade was outstanding and I was extremely proud of the Wellacre CCF cadets who represented us alongside Lt. Baker.”

Leading Hand, Bradley, Year 10, said:

“I enjoyed taking part in the Remembrance Parades especially as it was the first time I have taken a leadership role as a Wellacre Leading Hand.”

Wellacre’s CCF Cadets took another opportunity to celebrate with local veterans on the 21st October, when we were invited to join the Trafford Veteran’s Breakfast at Flixton Cricket Club.  The event was in honour of Trafalgar Day, when the Royal Navy celebrates the victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.  Thanks to Non-Uniformed Officer, Miss Harvey, and Oliver C, Bradley S, Ryan G, Mohammed H and Ethan C, Year 10, who represented our CCF naval unit.
