Students Celebrate Christmas Across the World

Wellacre students enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Christmas traditions in countries all over the world through the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) annual competition!

The KS3 festive competition invited students in Years 7 to 9, to design a Christmas card depicting the Christmas traditions of France or another country of interest.

Miss Bailey and Mrs Horridge asked students to research and design their card using a variety of materials, from paint to fabric, and that all entries were submitted in French or the language of the country featured.

The brief required originality in the Christmas card design as well as accuracy of language and content. The designs celebrated the traditions and languages of countries including Poland, Japan, Spain, France and Germany.

Categories for winners recognised creativity, cultural interest and research in students’ designs.

“Well done to all who entered, it was a very difficult competition to judge! Congratulations to our winners who put a lot of effort into their entries.

Matthew and Theo showed their great artistic flair, Youssef beautifully shared Polish Christmas traditions throughout his design and Alfie’s card presented fantastic research on a traditional French Christmas! ”
