Wellacre’s Young Health Ambassadors celebrated their work at the Mentally Healthy Schools Greater Manchester Conference on 2nd July 2019.

The event was an opportunity for Wellacre students to meet other young people from more than 60 primary and secondary schools that have joined the Mentally Healthy Schools programme, which aims to equip schools with the tools to make change and help others.

Mr Pemberton, Vice Principal for Welfare and Wellbeing, said:

“We’re proud to be part of the Mentally Healthy Schools programme and everything our students have learnt and achieved.  The programme promotes awareness of mental health and wellbeing in schools and offers valuable support for staff, students and their families.”

The day heard from the programme sponsors (the Alliance for Learning Teaching School, the Youth Sport Trust, 42nd Street and Place2Be) and athlete sponsors, and also provided a range of mental health and wellbeing workshops.

The workshops enabled further discussion about students’ campaigns in school to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing, and also provided additional training and advice to inspire and support the Young Health Ambassadors and staff.

Wellacre Young Health Ambassador Jamie, Year 9, said:

“We looked at the progress of the work we’ve been doing as Young Health Ambassadors in school, including all the events we’ve organised like the dodgeball tournament and the Playground Challenge.

“I enjoyed the activities that showed us how to boost our mental health.  It was a really good day and I came back with lots more information to continue our work in school.”
