Wellacre Celebrates Francophone Music

During the Spring term, Year 9 students enjoyed Manie Musicale, an international celebration event of Francophone music and artists.

In MFL lessons, students listened to and studied the lyrics of songs sung in French, and also found out more about the artists. Along with students across the globe, they were invited to vote for their favourites. 

The international event has exposed Wellacre students to a variety of current Francophone artists, which has increased their cultural capital and knowledge of the French language. Artists also invited students to get in touch and Jake connected with LeFloFranco, the overall winner of the contest, and Billy let artist Missy D know how much we liked her song!

Mrs Horridge, Teacher of MFL, said:

“To hear Year 9 students singing the chorus of their favourite Keen'V song on the yard and to see them so engaged in their support of artists they had discovered, has been a highlight of the year in the MFL department. 

“They have become hugely confident in expressing their opinions in French and have learned a wealth of new vocabulary through watching the bilingual subtitled music videos.”

Certificates were awarded to Jacob, Jake and Riain.  Jacob was the champion who correctly predicted the outcome of the largest number of musical matches, with runners up Jake and Riain.

Student enjoyment of the event was evident in their feedback:

"I really enjoyed it and it brought a spirit to French lessons this term, with everyone talking about who would win the next round."
