Year 7 Benjamin Joins Rescue Mission

We are delighted to share an incredible act of kindness and bravery by Year 7 student, Benjamin, and his father.

On Thursday 21st January, on a local lockdown outing in Lymn, Benjamin and his family became involved in a rescue mission when a driver’s car became stuck under a bridge in rising water.

The family were driving behind an elderly driver and witnessed the flood water rising and causing her car to float in the water.

Without hesitation, Benjamin and his father ran to the car to check on the driver.  The water was waist high and Benjamin’s father waded through the water to pull the lady from her car whilst Benjamin stood on the tunnel ledge reassuring her that she would be ok.

Mrs Thorpe, Benjamin’s Mum, said:

“Considering how shy he can be, Benjamin was so amazing.  He even walked the lady from the tunnel whilst carrying her shopping bags to our car.  We sat her down to get warm and comforted her whilst further help arrived.”

Once the driver’s husband arrived, Benjamin walked them to their other car and helped carry all their belongings.

Mrs Thorpe added:

“The lady was naturally very distressed, but still found time to tell our family that ‘your Dad and brother are heroes.’

“It's just so nice to see the kindness and confidence coming out of Benjamin more.  We believe, along with ourselves, that Wellacre helps play a role in this.”

Miss Wicks, Principal, said:

“We were hugely proud to hear about Benjamin’s bravery; what heroes both Benjamin and his Dad are!  It must have been extremely frightening for all involved and I'm sure the lady was hugely appreciative of Benjamin’s help and kindness towards her.”
