Walking for AfriTwin

In November, Wellacre’s AfriTwin students gathered for a sponsored walk around Anglezarke Reservoir, Rivington Pike, to raise funds for the programme.

AfriTwin is an exchange programme that Wellacre has been involved with since 2005.  We are linked with Ferrum High School in Newcastle, KwaZula Natal. The bi-annual programme will see Ferrum learners coming to stay with us in Manchester and our students making a reciprocal to South Africa.

Our AfriTwin students are Ben and Matthew M in Year 9, and Bailey, Xiomar, Finnan, Noah, Oliver, Joe, Jack, Edward and Matthew W in Year 8.

Accompanied by AfriTwin co-ordinators Mrs Eagling, Assistant Leader of Maths, and Mr Wise, Cover Supervisor, as well as Mrs Hill, Teacher of Maths, the group set off on a brisk six mile morning walk in glorious sunshine.

Mrs Eagling said:

“The boys were really enthusiastic and finished the walk in good time.  Everyone enjoyed the countryside and beautiful scenery. It was tiring but worth it for the hot chocolate waiting for us at the end of the walk. It’s great way to raise funds for AfriTwin.”

So far, the boys have collected £250 for their efforts. Well done boys!
