Community Cohesion at Wellacre

Year 7 to 9 students participated in Wellacre’s diverse and reflective annual Community Cohesion (CoCo) Day on Friday 7th July.

Over 10 years ago, Wellacre introduced CoCo day with a focus on cultural diversity, but the event has grown to encompass activities on the themes of Community, Careers, Diversity, Citizenship, Politics, Health, Cultural Arts, Environment and Sustainability, PSHE and more.

We welcomed community visitors from local businesses and organisations including Milk Influencers, Bangadrum, The Lowry, Rugby coaches and Wellacre’s own CCF Navy Unit.

Mrs O’Neill, Assistant Principal Personal Development and SENDCo, said:

“The day was a great opportunity for our students to engage with different types of learning and a variety of experts. It was wonderful to witness Year 9 and 10 listening so attentively in an assembly about county lines and the harsh realities of prison, then being inspired to think about entrepreneurship.

“It was equally fantastic to watch prospective CCF students enjoy the activities on offer and see Year 7 and 8 embrace their musicality through drumming and dance! We look forward to next year’s Community Cohesion Day which we hope will be just as successful!”
