Brilliant Club Students to Graduate

Wellacre's Brilliant Club students are celebrating after receiving an outstanding set of results for their university assignments.

The group of Year 7 and 8 students have been working alongside a PhD tutor from the University of Manchester on The Scholars’ Programme, which culminated in each student submitting a challenging final assignment.

Students considered the question “What does peace mean to you?” receiving support and guidance through tutorials, one-to-one sessions and assistance from Teacher of English, Mrs Potter, before their papers were marked and moderated using university grades.

Mr Pemberton, Vice Principal, Welfare and Wellbeing, said:

“We are thrilled with the students’ Brilliant Club results, which are the best ever for Wellacre!

As well as the accomplishment of completing the course with flying colours, these students have also had the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to follow a university pathway in the future.”

Congratulations to our Brilliant Club scholars who will attending a special graduation ceremony at the University of Manchester later in May:

Year 7 students Harry, Jackson and Robert, alongside Year 8 Matthew, all achieved a 1st!  This top grade equates to performing to an excellent standard at GCSE.

Year 7 students Aaron, Lewis, and Oliver, and Year 8s Christian, Joshua, Benjamin, Jayden and Leonard all achieved a 2:1 grade.  This equates to performing to a good standard at GCSE.

Assignment feedback graded students’ subject knowledge, critical thinking and written communication and they also received praise for their commitment, attention to detail, diligence, and enthusiasm and participation in tutorial discussions.

Wellacre’s PhD Tutor, Dr Ola Abdelaal, said:

“It was a pleasure teaching this course at Wellacre Academy. All of the students performed at a very good/excellent level; I am so proud of them. They have shown the highest possible level of patience, perseverance and dedication.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, added:

“Amazing results! Well done boys and thank you to Dr Abdelaal, Mrs Potter and Mr Pemberton for their support throughout the programme.”
