Charity Run in aid of Local Primary Teacher

Year 10 Wellacre student, Thomas, joined forces with a primary school friend, Charlotte, to organise and complete a sponsored run in aid of a Teaching Assistant at his former primary school, Irlam Endowed.

The 8.5 mile return run from Irlam Leisure Centre to the Trafford Centre took place on Saturday 14th September.

They collected £560.46 from school, friends and family, which they have donated to Barbara Mason who works at their former primary school.  The money will go towards life-saving treatment for Barbara in Moscow, Russia, for a rare brain condition she is living with. 

Thomas said: 

“I’ve always wanted to fundraise for charities and so I decided to arrange a sponsored run to raise money for Ms Mason because she worked at my former primary.”

Thomas and Charlotte were inspired to help because both their families are busy fundraising for the cause and Thomas had already taken part in a charity talent show in September 2019.  Altogether, fundraisers have collected over £3,000. 

He added:

“Friends and family waved us off and caught up with us along our route to support us.  I'm really pleased with the money raised and we’re now planning a charity bike!”
