Ben is a Big Hit with Team GB

Wellacre Student to Play for GB Softball

Ben, Year 9, has hit the big time and has been successfully selected to play for Team GB Softball against the Czech Republic! 

After playing the sport for a couple of years and attending a Softball Club every Monday, a family friend spotted Ben’s talent and put him in touch with GB Softball.

Earlier this year, Ben was invited to attend some local training sessions, which involved training with GB coaches and potentially reaching the level to play for the GB team.

Over the Easter holidays, Ben visited a training weekend in Milton Keynes in preparation for the international match on the 2nd July.  The weekend included warm-ups, stamina training, game skills and tactic training, and a great opportunity to meet GB teammates. 

Ben said:

“I’m very excited, it’s a new opportunity for me. My parents are proud of me and I’m proud of myself. It will be a really good experience for me.”

Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field, with only underhand pitches permitted.  Ben plays in the first base position, which is important in the game of softball, as you must always be watching and ready to get batters out.

Ben will travel to Slough to play his first tournament with GB Softball on 22nd April. We wish him luck with his new team.
