Students Explore Professionally Produced Food at Aspire

On Wednesday 16th May, a group of Year 8 and 9 Wellacre students spent an evening at Aspire Restaurant at Trafford College in Timperley, accompanied by Miss Jones and Mrs Taylor.

The aim of the visit was to inspire new ideas and enable the students to develop their cookery skills for the Key Stage 4 Food course, which begins in September.

Eating in the restaurant gave the students an opportunity to think in more depth about the taste and textures of professionally produced food, as well as plating and presentation techniques.

Miss Jones, Teacher of Food and Nutrition, said:

"It was fantastic for the boys to taste and enjoy seasonal dishes, which were professionally plated.  The experience fired their imaginations with ideas for their own future menus."

The ‘Cowboys and Indians’ themed menu began with saloon snacks of mini sausages, homemade crisps and cucumber mint 'amuse bouche' followed by a starter and main choice of a fish, pork or vegetarian dish, and finished by a delicious baked alaska.

After the meal, the boys also had the chance to meet the Professional Cookery course tutor Matthew Shaw, who gave them a tour of the teaching kitchens at the college.

The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Toby said: "I had a really great time" and Daniel Rimmer added: "The food was delicious."

Other diners in the restaurant also complimented the Wellacre boys on their excellent table manners and politeness.
